Seldom are we called upon to chronicle a sadder death than that of Mr. W. I. Green, which occurred last Saturday night, Dec. 6, 1902, about 9 o'clock. Many of his friends did not know that he was even sick, and very few thought that he was so near his end. He was taken sick about three weeks ago, and his family and physician thought it was some little disorder of the stomach. But he gradually grew worse until it led to hemorrhage. He then sank rapidly until the end came last Saturday night. Mr. Green was a man of loveable character. We did business under the same roof with him for seven months and found him to be a man that attended to his own business and let other people's alone. He would put himself to inconvenience to oblige a friend or neighbor.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and tried to live up to its teachings. He joined the order of the Woodmen of the World which was organized here a few months ago. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church and conducted by Rev. W. A. Gregg. His remains were then taken into the churchyard and laid to rest. The esteem in which he was held was attested by the very long funeral procession. The family has the sympathies of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
May He who tempers the winds to the shorn lambs, ever shield and protect.
