Douglas Wayne Babcock age 64 of New Hampton died Friday morning, February 4, 2011, at his home.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with military honors by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts.

Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 7:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Douglas Wayne Babcock was born January 6, 1947, in New Hampton, the son of Donald and Lucille (Hackman) Babcock. He received his education in New Hampton and was a graduate of the class of 1965. On April 7, 1966, he was inducted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. While in service he received a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged on April 5, 1968.

On April 12, 1969, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton, he married Judy Eichenberger. To this union three children were born. In his early years, Doug worked for the former B & P Silo Company in New Hampton and the former Carlson Construction from Decorah. In 1983 he began raising fox at home and also worked for Drewelow fur in Fredericksburg. Doug did custom fur processing for himself and the Drewelow's.

Doug loved his dogs, all wildlife, hunting, fishing and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; one son, Jeffrey (Stacy) Babcock of Charles City; one daughter, Laura (Curtis) Kiesling of Nevada; six grandchildren, Alex Babcock, Tyler Babcock, Justin Babcock, Megan Babcock, Caitlyn Kiesling and Logan Kiesling; one brother, Ken Babcock of Nashua; a mother-in-law, Lois Eichenberger of New Hampton; an aunt and uncle, Duane & Marlys Hackman of Elma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark in 1997 and one brother, Keith Babcock.
