Mary Jane was a native of Macon County and was a daughter of the late Thadeus Blaine and Florence Rhodes Greene. She had lived in Buncombe County for the past 51 years.
She was survived by her husband Elbert N. Carpenter, a daughter Mrs. Jerry Dawson of the home, a son Nelson B. Carpenter of the home, five sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 grandchildren.
Services were held at 4 PM Tuesday September 10, 1980 at Ridgeway Baptist Church of which she was a member. The Revs. James Calvin and Fred C. Fore officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
