Dorothy Fay Abrahamson-Nelson, 90, died on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Edgewood Vista, East Grand Forks, MN.
Dorothy was born the daughter of Leonard and Anna (Lynch) Packenham on June 23, 1920 in Brookings, SD. Dorothy grew up in Wheaton, MN and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1938. She attended NY Hairdressing Academy in Fargo and UND in Grand Forks. She volunteered 2 years for the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Grand Forks and Chicago.
Dorothy married Arleigh Abrahamson on September 12, 1943 in Valley City, ND. She worked at the Valley City Times as Society Editor. They moved to Williston, ND and owned and operated Black Gold Motel. She moved back to Valley City and worked as a reporter of the Valley City Times. Dorothy moved to Grand Forks in 1968 and worked for the Grand Forks Herald until her retirement in 1990.
She married Cameron Nelson on August 23, 1992 in Thief River Falls, MN. They spent winters in Mesa, AZ for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband: Cameron, Grand Forks, ND; daughters: Tam (Randy) Wright, Salem, OR, Jan (Tom) Monda, Fargo, ND and Nan (Dale) Mathiason, Oxbow, ND; and five grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Floyd.
