Richard was the youngest of six children born to Christian George Pape and Mary Catherine Vonderhaar. In 1937 he wed Mary Adith Snyder and they had three children: Margaret, Richard and Marilyn. Mary died in Oct 1978 and the following year he married Catherine Wenz Pape, the widow of his brother Fred. He was a chemical operator and the DuPont Neoprene plant and a member of Moose Lodge 5.
