"Major Robert Barnard, U.S. Engineer, died at Los Angeles on the 9th instant. The remains were brought to San Francisco for interment."
Note: Major Barnard was buried first in Lone Mountain Cemetery in San Francisco, most likely he was moved here when Lone Mountain was closed to make room for building in San Francisco.
Cause of death was a ruptured blood vessel.
