— Martha Clara Penning, age 97, of Wilmont died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington.

Martha Clara Penning, age 97, of Wilmont, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington.

She was born February 15, 1913, in Granville, IA, to Henry and Mary (Trapp) Brink. In 1919, she moved to Wilmont and attended school.

Martha married Michael Penning on February 6, 1934, in Wilmont.

After their marriage, the couple lived in Dumont where they farmed for several years. In 1953, they moved to the farm east of Wilmont. Michael died in 1975. Martha moved to Wilmont in 1979.

She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont; a fifty year member of the Catholic Daughters of America; and the WCCW.

She enjoyed quilting, playing cards & gardening.

Martha is survived by her three children, Arnold (Linda) Penning, Morgan; Carol Penning, Mankato; and Jim (Colleen) Penning, Apple Valley; six grandchildren, Gene (Jeanie) Penning, Shakopee; Chuck (Teresa) Penning, Washington, KS; Don Penning, Hopkins; Jake Warner, Apple Valley; Mike Penning, Apple Valley; and Annie Penning, Apple Valley; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; two sons, Donald & Ambrose Penning; two daughters, Alice & Arlene Penning; and two brothers, Joe & John Brink.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont, with parish prayers at 4:30 pm. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral will be 2 pm Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont, officiated by Fr. Timothy Hall. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.
