Richard K. Jaskoski

September 7, 1940 - February 3, 2011

Richard Karol Jaskoski, passed away February 3, 2011 after a year long battle with brain cancer. He was born on September 7, 1940 in Salem, Oregon to Phillip and Leotta Noud Jaskoski, the youngest of 5 children.

He attended local schools and graduated from OCE, now WOU, where he earned a Master of Arts in teaching. He married his college sweetheart, Sheryl Sullivan, in 1962. They had 3 children.

He was known, affectionately, as "Mr. J" to students at Whiteaker and McNary High School--where he was head of the English Dept. for 20 years. He loved teaching and was highly regarded by students and educators alike. He retired in 1998 after 30 years.

In retirement he liked to spend time with his family, at the beach and working with stained glass. Some of his favorite travels included Washington DC, the San Juan Islands, a European river cruise and frequent trips to Hawaii. He also served as Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph's Church.

He is survived by Sheryl, his wife of 48 years; son, Alan Jaskoski of Monmouth, OR; daughters, Jill Tackman of Keizer, OR, and Joelle Jaskoski of Eugene, OR; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Phil Jaskoski, Burlington, VT, and Tom Jaskoski, Salem, OR; sisters, Pat Iwen, Salem, OR and Margaret Jaskoski, Lacey, WA.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church at 5303 River Rd. NE, Keizer, OR. Private internment will be at St. Barbara's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Burzynski Clinic, 9432 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77055 where Richard participated, as long as he was able, in Phase III clinical trials of antineoplastons for the treatment of brain cancer or Mt. Angel Seminary where he studied as a youth. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
