Bob graduated from Rutland High School in 1929.
He owned and operated Stafford's Mobil Service Station and Stafford's Fuel Oil Delivery Service. He worked as a draftsman for Proctor Marble Co.
Bob was very active in the Republican Party, served in the Vermont House of Representatives and also as a Rutland City alderman and was a trustee of the Evergreen Cemetery Association.
He was a 65-year member of the First Baptist Church and a member and past master of Rutland Lodge #79, F&AM, the Cairo Shrine AAONMS and the Rutland Elks BPOE #345.
Bob married Katherine M. "Kay" (Morton) Stafford on September 30, 1939.
He was predeceased by his wife on June 11, 2008, and a daughter, Mary Whiting, on October 24, 1986.
Family members include a son, James Stafford and Jeanette Daigle of Essex Junction, Vt.; Judith Stafford of South Burlington, Vt.; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Whiting and wife Vickie of Goshen, Vt.; three grandchildren, Michael J. Stafford and wife Jennie-Lynn, Lynn K. Yamada and husband David, Kelly L. Vinger and husband Christopher; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Agosti, Naomi and Gabriel Yamada, and Kayla and Caden James Vinger.
The funeral service will be held Tues., February 8, 2011, at 3 p.m. in the Tossing Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark E. Heiner, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be held Tues., February 8, 2011, from 2-3 p.m. in the Tossing Funeral Home where the F&AM will hold a Masonic service at 2:10 p.m.
Entombment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with burial there at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 81 Center St., Rutland, VT 05701; or Meals On Wheels, 80 Belden Road Suite 6, Rutland, VT 05701.
