Charles Franklin Allen, 74,, son of the late Orace Guy Allen and Florence Valeria Overbey Allen, was born on Nov. 16, 1936, in Lamar, Ark. and died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Mr. Allen was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean/Gulf War. He was a brick layer and worked in construction, and was a member of the Bernie Church of Christ.
He was united in marriage to Gayle Nelson on April 5, 1971 in Bernie, Mo. Mrs. Allen preceded her husband in death on June 5, 1991.
Survivors include one son, James Allen of Watts, Okla.; five daughters, Christine Sago of Casselberry, Fla., Charlene Smith of Success, Ark., Heidi Kennedy of Fredericktown, Mo., Cathy Montgomery of Guntown, Miss., and Emily Lashley of Bernie, Mo.; one brother, Wilburn Allen of Bernie, Mo.; one sister, Nadine McCormick of St. Charles, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; a longtime companion, Betty Parks of Piggott, Ark.; also by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death other than by his parents and his wife, by one sister, Pauline Dunn.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011 starting at 11 a.m. with Stan Dauck officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
