James A. Vaughn was born in Green County, State of Kentucky, March 5, 1850. At the age of 7 years he moved with his parents to Petersburg, Ill., there he met and married Hannah J. Conyers a few yeas later they came to Kansas locating near Fredonia. The following year they located near the town of Gilford, where they lived until their family of five children grew to man and womanhood, one daughter having died in early life. In the year of 1920 they moved to Bartlett, where they lived until the death Jan. 28, 1927.

Being 76 years, 10 months, three week and two days of age. He has left to mourn his loss, his wife, five children, eight grandchildren and one great grand child, also one brother, Philip Vaughn of Attabery, Ill., one sister, Eliza Woldridge of Kirksville, Mo., and a host of friends. The children are Mrs. Mae Lugeanbeal of Bartlett, Mrs. Katherine Morrison of Benedict, Kans., Mrs. Irene Travis, of Erie, Kans., Walter M. of Kansas City and J.P. of Benedict, Kans.

Jim Vaughn as he was know to his many friends was a man of a pleasing personality, being honest, kind and generous. He bore the greatest love for his family, his home and many friends.

He became a member of the Methodist church a good many years ago and has lived much like God would have us live, always ready to do for others, asking little in return, kind, patient and true, while we know he would like to have lingered longer with family and friends, we also know he could not have feared to go forth to meet his master.

Mr. Vaughn died at Erie at the home of a daughter where they went several months ago to spend the winter.

The remains were brought here Saturday and the funeral services were held in the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Pastor Rev. V.H. Thompson and burial in Lake Creek Cemetery.
