Rev War soldier, hired by General George Rogers Clark to guard ammunition being taken to Virginia settlements. He was captured by Indians in Kentucky, held for several years, given to the British, and was finally released after the end of the war.

There are two stones for Josiah. The original stone is at the historic jail in Boonville sitting in the yard. A new stone was placed in the 1980's.

For those seeking to visit this grave (and the adjoining grave of wife Isabella Read Dickson), the cemetery does not have a record since Josiah and Isabella were originally buried on the family farm. You can locate the grave by looking for the big stump.
