William W. "Bill" Johnson, 86, of Lansing, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born on April 21, 1921, in Wyandotte County, the son of James J. and Bertha (Blanz) Johnson.

On June 25, 1940, he married Helen R. Schmitt in Basehor, Kan.; she survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Mary Ann (Joseph) Oertel of Gulnare, Colo., Sister Eileen Marie Johnson, SCL of Anaconda, Mont., and Linda (Robert) Powers of Lansing; his grandchildren, Charlene White, Darlene Iannone, Kevin Wiehe, Peter Wiehe, Dale Bohannon II and Dawn Hudson; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Johnson.

Bill served in the U.S. Army. In 1948 Bill and Helen moved to Lansing. For several years Bill owned and operated Johnson Plumbing. In 1976 he retired from the VA Medical Center where he had worked for 31 years. He retired as the supervisor of building maintenance.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent Clinic. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leintzfh.com.
