Levi is a direct descendant of Georg Michael (1723-1807) and Anna Margretha (1719-1795) MUMPER. The vast majority of Mumpers, listed here at FindAGrave and otherwise residing in the United States, consider Georg Michael to be the common patriarch.

Levi was a battlefield photographer & Civil War veteran. He enlisted on Aug. 13, 1862 as a Private; on that date mustered into Co. I of the 127th PA Infantry, a 9 month unit. He was mustered out on May 29, 1863 at Harrisburg, PA.

Levi established his photography studio on West Middle Street in the space formerly occupied by Samuel Weaver's Gallery. Levi later moved his gallery to Baltimore St., and in 1869 moved again to Littlestown, PA, a small town just a few miles south of Gettysburg. He returned once again to Gettysburg & reoccupied the gallery on Baltimore St. He was assisted in the photography business by his sons, Jacob and Clyde.

On the 26 of Feb. 1865 he married Sarah Sybilla "Sallie" Shaeffer. They had nine children -- Jacob Ira, Charles Samuel, Mary Catherine (Leitzell), Frank Leroy, Elsie Gertrude (Bender), John Alban, Albert Clifford, Clyde Eugene, and Edgar Raymond. Following Sarah's death, Levi married Ida Bell Fry and had a tenth child, Frederick Lee Mumper.

Cause of Death: CVA.
