"Bud" Keese Died Last Thursday
L.J. Keese, better known as "Bud" Keese, died in a San Antonio hospital Thursday evening, June 12 at 5:45 o'clock, following a short illness. Funeral services were conducted at the West Prong Cemetery near Medina, Saturday afternoon, by Rev. Winkle, pastor of the Kerrville Christian Church, assisted by Rev. F. A. Walton, pastor of the Medina Baptist Church, followed by the Masonic burial ceremonies. Active pall bearers were W.R. Fletcher, Earl Weed, J. Marvin Hunter, Charles Fee, Hough LeStourgeon and G. C. Burks. The honorary pall bearers were E.L. McBryde, J.H. Lewis, P.O. Love and W.C. Baker.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Paralee Keese; four sons, Orville W. Keese of Marathon, Alfred Keese, Jeff Keese and Charlie Keese of Medina; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Love of Menard, and Miss Annie Keese of Medina, one daughter Mrs. Horace Porter, died Feb 3 1926. Three brothers W. R. Keese and S. A. Keese of Medina and O. A. Keese of Menard and one sister Mrs. W. A. Tobey of Medina, also survive. There are sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

L.J. Keese was born in Brown County Texas, April 23 1868, and at the time of his death was 73 years, one month, and twenty days old. He came to Bandera County in 1870 with his parents, Thomas Harrison Keese and Angelina Lewis Keese and resided here the greater part of the time since then. He was a member of the Church of Christ for twenty one years, and was a member of the Bandera Lodge No. 1123, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. On Feb. 6, 1890, he was happily married in Medina to Miss Paralee Sheppard, and just last year he and his devoted wife celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Bud Keese was one of the solid pioneer citizens of Bandera County he stood high in the esteem of all who knew him and was a factor in the development of better conditions in his community. The great concourse of sorrowing friends which gathered at the cemetery to pay a tribute of respect to this good man was testimony of the love of those friends for him. People came from many sections to attend the funeral and genuine sorrow was depicted in the faces of all. He was a kind and indulgent father, a devoted husband, a loyal friend, an upright citizen, and through the more than seventy years he had lived in this county he built for himself a good name among men, which is now the heritage of his children and oncoming generations. He will be greatly missed, but the good deeds he preformed and the influence he exerted will remain to remind us that he passed this way.

Bud Keese was a man of strong convictions and fearless in the expression of them; a man of undoubted integrity, and possessed of all the elements that go to make up a valuable, effective and loyal citizen; he was genial and kind in his intercourse with his fellowmen, always candid, but courteous. So much in evidence were these splendid traits of character.
