Born January 18, 1922, Vernell was a daughter of the late Columbus and Kate (Young) Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Anson and a member of the Anson Church of Christ.
Vernell attended the Union Community schools and graduated from Anson High School. She married Paul B. Maxwell June 28, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters, and five brothers.
Survivors include: her sons, Danny Maxwell of Abilene and Terry Maxwell and wife, Sharon of Brennan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Charlene Brown of Anson and Billie Brown of Neinda; a faithful sister?in-law, Mrs. Josephine Maxwell and friends.
