Charles F. Gruber, 94 a resident of the Rouse Suites and formerly of 2044 Dunns Eddy Road, Youngsville, Pa. died peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday morning, July 8, 2009 . He was born October 7, 1914 in Warren, Pa. to the late Oswalt J. and Mary Whithill Gruber. He was a Warren area resident for most of his life, moving to Youngsville in 1976. He had served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Dept. during World War II as a Technician 3rd class and was a Pearl Harbor survivor, served in Hawaii and the Pacific theatre and loved the Philippines and the Philippine people. Charles was employed as a furnace operator at the former National Forge Company retiring in 1979 after 13 years service. He was previously employed with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a car inspector for 21 years. He was the oldest member of the Warren Y.M.C.A. where he enjoyed swimming right up to his current age. He wrote poetry, was an avid hunter, birdwatcher, enjoyed plants, flowers and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane R. Muscaro Gruber whom he married August 23, 1945 in Warren, Pa. He is also survived by two daughters: Rita Pittock and her husband, Ronald of N. Warren, Pa., and Mary Box and her husband, Ted of Virginia Beach, Va; two sons: Richard Gruber and his wife, Cheryl of Youngsville, Pa and Paul Gruber of Irvine, Pa.; a brother: Arvid Gruber a resident of the Rouse Suites, Youngsville, Pa., 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Charles Paul Gruber; three brothers: John, Ray and Donald Gruber; and a sister, Pearl Jones.
