Sheridan County native Paul Joseph Barina Sr., 89, of Santa Paula, Calif., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, Calif., after a brief illness. A gathering of remembrance is planned for friends and family next spring. Arrangements are with Funeraria del angel Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula. Mr. Barina was born May 15, 1916, in Monarch to Joseph and Anna (Fasung) Barina. He grew up in Sheridan and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the Navy in 1935 and was a veteran of World War II. He served as a radio man. He was honorably discharged as chief petty officer in 1945. He married Marion Bella Mahan on Aug. 21, 1943, while he was stationed in Winslow, Ariz. They moved to Sheridan in the early 1950s, and he worked for the FAA. They moved to Las Vegas in 1958. Mr. Barina retired from the FAA as an electrician technician in 1972. The Barinas moved to Santa Paula in 1986. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary, Anna and Betty. Survivors include his wife, of Santa Paula; two daughters, Marion Catherine and Ethel Ann; a son, Paul Joseph Jr.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
