William E. Sevier was the son of John Sevier (1796-1863) who was born in Tennessee and died in Kansas; and Anna (Friend) Sevier (1806-1834) who was born in North Carolina and died in Illinois.

William had one known sibling, Archibald Sevier (1820-1897).

On June 15, 1854 in Brown County, Illinois, William married Minerva Ann Houston (1836-1889). They had two known children:

Valentine Sevier 1855–1925
James Sevier 1857–1925

Records indicate that Minerva lived until 1889 and died in Brown County, Illinois. So, it appears that she and William were divorced and that their two sons stayed with her.

William moved to Macon County, Missouri where he married Lucretia Jane "Janie" Atwell on October 9, 1857 in that location. They had the following known children:

John Everett Sevier 1858-1930
Henry Sevier 1860-
Sarah Sevier 1863-
Jeanette Isabelle Sevier 1867–1943
*Rosetta Ann Sevier 1868–1919

The Seviers were counted in two different census records in the year of 1860. In June, 1860, they were living in Macon County, Missouri, and were shown in Liberty Township. William was 26 and Lucretia 20, and they had 1-year-old son John. Also living with them at this time was Lucretia's brother William Atwell 17.

Between June and August of 1860, the Seviers moved to Chariton County, and they were counted in the August 1860 census there. William is listed as a shingle maker and he and Janie have been married for 3 years. They have son John Sevier, age 1, and they are also caring for three children named Wilson, ages 6, 5, and 1. It is unknown to this writer who these are. However, there are residents named Wilson shown in this census as neighbors to the Seviers.

The census of 1870 for the Seviers cannot be found at this time. In the 1880 census of Cole County, Missouri, the Seviers have only children Jeanette 13 and Rosetta 12 left in the home. William Sevier is listed then as a farmer.

William Sevier died in 1885 and Janie in 1912. Janie's death certificate shows she is buried at Mount Salem Cemetery, so I am assuming that William is buried beside her. However, he is not listed in the original cemetery book to this cemetery, which until the year 2014 has been up to date since 1872 (first burial). If he is not in this cemetery, then it is unknown to this writer where he is buried.
