Manufacturer of nails, machinery and edged tools. By the means of improved machinery which he devised, the price of nails was reduced from 12 to 4 cents per pound. His nails, with a letter D stamped on the head, were largely used in the construction of many of the churches and other buildings at Auburn and other places. The first cracker and shawl machine used in New York State and some of the first milling machines of Rochester were built by him. He had a warm social natures, led an exemplary life and was much respected for his honesty in business dealings. He united with the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn early in life and was one of its officers for thirteen years.
