Mrs. Bowie Was Born In Frederick County--Burial At Unionville
Mrs. Catherine Gaither Bowie, wife of Col. Washington Bowie, Sr., died Saturday night at Mercy Hospital Baltimore from the effects of a fall down a flight of stairs. She had been at the hospital since Friday.
Mrs. Bowie was a member of a prominent Maryland family, as is her husband, Colonel Bowie. She was a daughter of the late George Gaither and was born in Frederick county. Colonel and Mrs. Bowie resided at 1403 Madison avenue, Baltimore.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Bowie is survived by three brothers, Mr. Jesse S. Gaither, of New York; Mr. Robert Lee Gaither, of Manassas, Va., and William Gaither, of Baltimore and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph B. Boyle and Miss Fannie Cross Gaither of New York.
Col. Washington Bowie, Jr., who is now at the Mexican border with the Maryland National Guard is a stepson.
Colonel Bowie, Sr., was at one time prominent in Democratic circles and held a number of important offices. For some years he has not been active in politics.
The funeral of Mrs. Bowie will be held Tuesday and the burial will be at Unionville, Frederick county.
