Alonza Clarence Denson, 89, of the 5800 block of Lowrey Road died July 11, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of Tarboro, N.C., he was the widower of Mary Thomas Denson and a retiree from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He attended Virginia Beach Community Chapel.
Survivors include his brother, Orren W. Denson, and his wife, Miriam L. Denson, of Norfolk; nephew, David Denson, and his wife, Pattie, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; niece, Diane D. Styron, and her husband, Thomas, of Virginia Beach; two great-nieces, Susanne Potter, and her husband, Michael, of Norfolk, Faith Denson of West Palm Beach; and two great-nephews, David Tollaksen of Norfolk, Paul Denson of West Palm Beach.
He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Swayne.
A private graveside funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Shoaf in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, today from 3 to 5 p.m. No flowers please. Those wishing to make a donation may give to a favorite charity or church of their choice. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
