Edwin G. Knoll, 87, of Garden City, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 28, 1924, in St. Peter, to Peter and Elizabeth Dreiling Knoll. He attended Holcomb schools, graduating from Holcomb High School in 1942.


On April 14, 1947, he married Eleanor Seib in Garden City. She survives.

Mr. Knoll worked for more than 36 years for Northern Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1986 as a utility foreman. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, and a third degree and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he was very active in all offices and activities of the Knights. He also was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Garden City. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, coaching baseball, playing softball and drinking coffee at Dillons with his friends.

In addition to his wife, survivors include six children and their spouses, Larry and Kathy Knoll of Tyler, Texas, Shirley and David Wolfe of Austin, Texas, David and Beverly Knoll, Paula Knoll and Dennis Tomsicek, and Kevin Knoll, all of Garden City, and Marlene and Don Anschutz of Russell; a sister, Odilia Wasinger of Garden City; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Knoll.

Vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary was at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass was at the church. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
