Jean grew up on Jefferson Avenue in the Five Corners section of Jersey City, NJ. She moved to Dumont, NJ in 1940 to live with her brother Ed Miller and his family on Roosevelt Avenue when her mother died. She married Henry Potenski on May 26, 1945 at St. Anne’s RC Church, Jersey City, NJ. Jean was very active in the community, volunteering in the Dixon Homestead Library and also numerous roles in building up St. Mary’s RC Church, including the Rosary and Altar Society and as Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. She worked for the Dumont Board of Education after her husband died.
