The 1900 Cansus and his 1917 draft registration list Frank's birthplace as Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. He immigrated to the United States during 1892 with his parents Wenzel (Vincent) Backowski and Antonia (Jendro) Backowski and two brothers, Vincent Jr. and Anton (Anthony, Tony). A sister Antonia (Lena) was born duirn 1894 in Wisconsin and by early 1896 the family had settled on a farm in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN.
