Rudolph was born June 17, 1913, to Phillip and Carlina (Buxcel) Vollmer at Stanford, SD. He grew up on a farm south of Stanford in Mellette County. He was married to Laura E. Getz on June 25, 1939, at Kadoka, SD. The couple moved near Comfrey, MN, where he worked on dairy farms before moving back to Kadoka, where they lived until 1957. He moved to Piedmont and worked in the dairy farms until 1962 when he and Laura moved to Sturgis and partnered with Jarvis Davenport in the dairy south of Sturgis. They lived and worked there until he retired and moved into Heritage Acres one-and-a-half years ago.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood, where he had served as an elder and vice-president. He also was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Black Hills Milk Producers, and Good Sam Club.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Wayne and Sharon Vollmer, Sturgis, and Neil and Linda Vollmer, Newell; one daughter and her husband, Shirley and Bob Mallow, Black Hawk; one brother, Reuben Vollmer of Midland; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Rudolph was preceded in death by his wife, Laura, two grandsons, two granddaughters, one sister, five brothers, and his parents.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and before services at the church in Deadwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood, with Pastor Gordon Goldammer officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood.
A memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood.
