Indiana Basketball Legend. Born in East Chicago, Indiana, James better known as Jim went to high school at Roosevelt, taking the team all the way to the state championships as undefeated in 1970. In 1972 he was named the MVP of the Midwestern conference. He went on to attend Northern Illinois University. He played only two seasons of college ball because freshmen weren't eligible. Though, he would later became Northern Illinois University's basketball Player of the Century. In the November 29, 1971 issue of "Sports Illustrated," Jim appeared in a full page picture, standing in a cornfield wearing his trademark wonderful smile and his "Huskie" uniform. In the 1974 basketball draft he was picked to play with the Los Angeles Lakers in the third round. He also played for the Kentucky Colonels from 1973 to 1975 and Denver Nuggets from 1975 to 1976 in the ABA for 98 games, his ABA debut was in January of 1974. Finally in March of 2010, Jim was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Fellow E.C. Roosevelt teammates felt Jim was long denied induction due to the nature of his death. Jim was shot in the back and killed in 1982 in Portland, Ore., in an alley known for drug activity. He was 29.
