AGNES "NANCY" GRIER WYLIE (1792-1874) was born in the Steele Creek community of Mecklenburg County, NC to James Grier II and his wife Martha Nisbet Grier. Her mother died in 1805 when she was 13. When she was about 17, Nancy married her first cousin, Thomas Wylie. The couple had nine children. Sometime before 1820, they moved to the Neely's Creek section of York County. The children of the couple were:
1. Mary Grier Wylie (1810-1892) who married John Roddey
2. Margaret Wylie (1812-1849) who married J. Harvey Whitesides
3. Elizabeth Ann Wylie (1814-1892) who married William Wylie
4. Samuel Wylie (1817-1890) who married Mary Ann Allen
5. John Clarkson Wylie (1821-1829)
6. Joseph Wylie (1824-1900) who married Martha Millen
7. Susan Jane Wylie (1826-1908) who married David Taylor Lesslie
8. William Wylie (1829-1844)
9. Nancy Caroline Wylie (1832-1900) who married John T. Boyd
In their later years, the couple took in several of the children of their daughter Margaret, who died in 1849. The eldest daughter, known as Polly, married John Roddey, who was an adjacent land owner. Elizabeth married William Wylie, who was also an adjacent land owner in the 1830 Census. This William Wylie was from Richburg, so was probably a member of the Fishing Creek branch of the family. He may have been related. He went on to serve as an elder in the Neely's Creek church for many years. Son Joseph Wylie became one of the leading merchants in Chester and a major benefactor for Associate Reformed Presbyterian causes.
Nancy Grier Wylie died on August 19, 1872 at the age of 80. She is buried at Neely's Creek with many of her children and descendants.
