He was married to Mildred Elizabeth Blair, daughter of James Henry Blair and Rose Crutchfield. He and Mrs. Austin had five children, four of whom lived to be adults: James Blair Austin; Marjorie Madge (Apr. 1931); Lida Lee (Turner); Donna Lou; Sondra Sue (Craft).
