Ruby Barnes succumbs following heart surgery, services today

Graveside services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard for Mrs. Ruby Lois Barnes, 55, of Buellton who died Friday at Goleta Valley Hospital following open heart surgery.

The Rev. Carlo Petersen, pastor of Bethania Lutheran Church in Solvang, will officiate.

Mrs. Barnes was born Jan. 8, 1921 in Fellows. Her parents were Valley natives Delbert A. Barnes-of Ballard and the former Elsie Knight of Santa Ynez.

She had been a resident of the Santa Ynez Valley for the past 45 years, moving with her family from Vallejo.

She married her husband, Myron, June 24, 1945 in Vallejo.

Mrs. Barnes was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Children's Home Society and bowling.

In addition to her husband, who survives at the family home, Mrs. Barnes leaves one daughter Roxanne Barnes and a son, Courtney Russell Barnes, both of the family home; a sister, Mrs. Audrey Olivera of Buellton; one brother, Rodney Barnes of Oregon and several nieces. Arrangements were under the direction of Paaske's Santa Ynez Valley Chapel in Ballard.
