This is the story of my great grand uncle. Son of Richard Hanson Randall Jr. and Harriet Jensen Merritt another of my 2x Great grand parents on my mothers side. He was born in Iowa in Nov 1881. He was not a farmer and when he was 19 worked as a sign printer in 1900. He enlisted in the US Army on Feb 4th 1901 and after training was assigned to the 10th US infantry and in time made the rank of Corporal. He and his unit was sent to the Philippines. This was due to the Philippine–American War, also known as the Philippine Insurrection or the Philippine War of Independence (1899–1902), an armed conflict between the United States and Filipino revolutionaries. Many of our solders died not of the war but of illness. He was one of them. He died on the transport ship Sherman on 31st of Aug 1903 on the way home at the end of that war.
His grave is in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap Iowa, block 8 row 2. The same cemetery as my 2 times great grandfather John Brady. You see in time the Brady and Randall families intermarried. So, if you are related to the Brady's you are related to this man who shall forever be young. I post this in honor of him, who left no known children or sweetheart at the age of 21. Oh, I am sure he had a sweetheart, but we will now never know about her.
