George William Morby, 88, of Denton, died at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Services will be Wednesday, March 3, with C.E. Cole officiating. Interment at Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg.

Mr. Morby was born to George and Anna Edith (Kirkman) Morby in Busnell, Kimball County, Neb. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1939. He was serving in Pearl Harbor and survived the sinking of his ship, the USS Worden, by a severe storm off Amshitka Island in the Aleutian Islands. He was commissioned staff sergeant aboard the USS Hall. He participated throughout the entire Pacific Arena during World War II, receiving various medals and accommodations, including the Purple Heart for injuries obtained in the Leyte Gulf. He married Norma Waunell Orrell June 23, 1948.

After serving nine years in the U.S. Navy, he joined the U.S. Army in September 1948 and served 15 years at various stations in Japan, France and the United States. He retired from the Army April 1963.

Mr. Morby was an active member of the Rosston community. He worked in bridge construction for a short time. He worked 10 years at Trinity Industries in Denton as a certified welder and inspector. He received an associates degree in metallurgy and retired as the public relations coordinator for Trinity Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann; a stepson, a step-daughter, two stepgrandchildren, two daughters, three grandsons, a granddaughter, a stepgrandson, three sisters, Eleanor Roberson, Anna Ruth Razor, and Gladys Marie Robertson; and several nieces and nephews.
