Dolores ‘De’ Anne Akers Amador

Dolores “De” Anne Akers Amador, 71, of Gering, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 11, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Fr. Gerald Harr officiating. Inurnment will follow at Creighton Valley Cemetery near Melbeta.

A prayer vigil will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and will be designated at a later date. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com . Gering Memorial Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

De was born Sept. 14, 1939, to Wayne and Florence (Merritt) Plank in Central City, Neb.

She married Frank J. Akers in 1957 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Pasadena, Calif. They were married for 28 years and together they had six children. They made their home in Peoria, Ill., until 1964 when they moved to California. In 1972, they moved to Scottsbluff. De was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was active in the choir and various other activities.

In 1986, she married Monte Amador in Montana. Later that year, they moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where De was very active in John XXIII Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister and a member of the choir. She also volunteered her time there to prepare meals for many church events.

De was an amazing mother to her six children, and her grandchildren gave her great joy. She dedicated her last years to raising her grandson. She cherished time with her family, especially arranging large holiday gatherings with her family and friends. De was a grandma to every child she knew. She was a wonderful woman who gave her heart to everybody.

Survivors include her husband, Monte Amador of Gering; children, Frank (Traci) Akers Jr. of Gering, Wendy Nashelsky of Fort Collins, Colo., Karen (David) Wiekhorst of Potter, Ronald (Lori) Akers of Gering, Sherri Akers of Gering, and Mary (Edward) Robinson of Gretna, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Earl (Lois) Stewart of Valenda, Calif.; sister, Georgia (Bill) Ritchie of Silver Lakes, Calif.; and her former husband, Frank Akers of Peoria, Ill.

Her parents, and grandbabies, Britney and Frankie Akers, preceded her in death.
