Jeanne Kathleen Koenig was born on April 12, 1938 in the Northern Pacific Hospital in Glendive to Edwin F. and Ida P. Koenig. Jeanne, a junior at Dawson County High School in Glendive was taken to be with her heavenly father on January 24, 1955. Jeanne had been home at Marsh for the weekend and on Sunday morning played the piano for the Lutheran Church services

She was a part time employee of the J.C. Penny Department store in Glendive and was on route from Marsh to Glendive to attend the Penney’s Christmas party, when the auto accident of which she was a passenger occurred on an icy wooden bridge over Sand Creek on the Marsh Road just west of Glendive.

Two funeral services were conducted for Jeanne, the first was held at 10 am at the Our Savior Lutheran Church (Rev. Myer) in Glendive followed by a 2pm service at the American Lutheran Church (Rev. Thomack) in Marsh.

Mrs. Orville Svingen sang “Nearer My God to Thee,” accompanied by Mrs. Herbert Reuther. A ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Jake Huft, Mrs. Jacob Schwartz, Mrs. Rudy Diegel and Mrs. Eugene Entzel sang “Asleep in Jesus” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer” accompanied by Ann Roesler. Paul bearers were Harold Gaub, Leo Doll, Evert Meidinger, Danny Saur, Norman Horning and Archie Gehnert. Following the funeral the burial was held in the Marsh Cemetery. Compiled by Verlin Koenig
