MRS. JOSIE BENTLEY ROWE
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Josie Bentley Rowe of Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, December 7. Mrs. Rowe spent several years in Syracuse where she
conducted a real estate and loan business with offices in the old Wieting Block. She left Syracuse eight years ago for California, later going to Seattle where she was married to
the Rev. Frank J. Rowe. For the past three years she and Mr. Rowe have conducted the Beacon Light Rescue Mission there.
Mrs. Rowe was born in the town of Cato and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene S. Mills, deceased. Besides her husband she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Herbert Sherman of Cato, Mrs. Clarence Althouse of St. Albans, Mrs. Hazel Scott of Syracuse, and one brother, Claude J. Mills of Cato.

1800's History from Syracuse, NY - Wieting Block and Wieting Opera House was located in Clinton Square in Syracuse, New York in 1913 from Erie Canal bridge. The former Opera House and Wieting Building have been demolished, the Erie Canal landfilled and the new building occupying the area is the Atrium / Metro Center building also the expansion of the Clinton Square Park which was part of the old Erie Canal. Water Street obtained its name as it was part of the former Erie Canal water route.

The Rev. J. H. Bellingslay, pastor of the Twenty-fourth Street M. E. Church in Manhattan, officiated last evening at the wedding of George S. Bentley of 179 Adams street, and Miss Josie M. Mills, of the same address. Mr. Bentley is 72 years old and his bride 27. They are both natives of Cato, N. Y.

Josie Mills had married George Bentley, roughly 45 years her senior in NYC on May 8, 1913. Mr. Bentley had died in 1915. George and Josie had no children. Years after Mr. Bentley death, about 1927 she left NY for California and then later to Seattle in 1931 where she met Rev. Rowe. Josie had married Rev. Frank J. Rowe on April 2, 1932 and lived the remaining years of her life in Seattle, WA. Josie died in Seattle, Wa., Saturday, Dec. 7, 1935 and is buried in Seattle. The tombstone shown is the grave site of George S. Bentley only. Josie's name remains on the tombstone as it was made at the time of George Bentley's death and as an indication of her marriage to Mr. Bentley.
