Herbert Lester Morris, long-time Yuma resident, went to be with his Lord on January 28, 2011, after a long illness. He was born in Mt. Hope, Kansas March 2, 1920.

Herb served in the United States Air Force during WWII as a photo-gunner in the South Pacific, earning a Bronze Star. After his discharge he married Frances Stone on April 19, 1945. They began farming in California with Herb's cousin. Herb was included in the first group of veterans to receive a homestead in Yuma, and they came here to live and farm in 1949.

Herb was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Indeed, he was a founding member, having had a hand in building every part of the church, and having held every church office, often more than once.

He was an active choir member until 2 ½ years ago, and was part of the Trinity Four Quartette that performed on Uncle Bob Hardy's "A Country Boy in a Country Concert" productions for many years.

His community efforts included active participation in the Farm Bureau. He was also a strong supporter of Arizona Western College, being involved in the El Toro Foundation, and there is a basketball scholarship in his name due to a land donation to the AWC Foundation. He loved to attend any sports function and even traveled to many out-of-town games for AWC.

Herb's positive view of life can be summed up in this sentence: "The more you give, the more you receive."

Herb is survived by his wife Frances S. Morris; daughter, Marian Costanza; grandson, Chris Costanza (Raquel), and great-grandson, Jonas Constanza.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Friday, February 18th, at 6:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Yuma, or Trinity United Methodist Church.
