LaVerne T. Bromeland
10-3-1908 / 6-27-2002
LaVerne T. Bromeland, age 93, of Newark, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 27, 2002 in Newark at the home of his sister-in-law, Naomi Vatland, who was a very special friend and caregiver to LaVerne for the past year. He was born October 3, 1908 in Newark, Illinois, the son of Thomas and Ina (Olson) Bromeland.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Bernice V. Bromeland on April 15, 1950 in the Concordia Church in Niles, Illinois. LaVerne and his wife, Bernice farmed in the Newark area most of their lives, and will be remembered by his nephew, Lee Newtson in the following tribute to his Uncle LaVerne.
A farmer and a man of the land with a kind heart and a warm gentle hand. I remember when you opened your home as a place to dwell. But most importantly, you opened your heart as well. You would never criticize, complain or angrily yelp, instead you were always there to give a hand and willing to help. For Aunt Bernice, a kind act or word of comfort you would lend, as a loving husband and caregiver right up to the end. Being at peace with your bags packed and ready you then became still as we all know. The Lord came down and put his arms around you and said it was your time to go. So now we pray as you are in that much better place, that you enjoy happiness and the glory of God's grace.
Survivors include nephews, Lee Newtson of Elburn, IL, Ken (Chris) Newtson of Las Cruces, NM, Ronald (Marj) Johnson of Morris, IL, Gene (Elizabeth) Johnson of Newark, IL, Wilbur (Sharon) Johnson of Aurora, IL, Harold Stein of Naperville, IL; a niece, Jacqueline Dimmick of Ottawa, IL; one sister, Charlotte (Russell) Johnson of Morris, IL and his sister in-law, Naomi Vatland of Newark, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice on March 25, 1999 and two brothers, Orrin and Merton.
Funeral services for LaVerne will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2002 at the Newark Lutheran Church. Rev. Charles Sampson will officiate. Burial will be in the Millington-Newark Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL. and also one hour before the funeral service on Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in LaVerne's name to VNA Hospice. 1245 Corporate Blvd. Aurora, IL 60504 or the Newark Lutheran Church. 101 E. Liberty St. Newark, IL 60541.
