Family bible gives her middle name as Amelia and birthdate as 3 Sept. 1850. On 25 Apr. 1868 Emma was granted a teacher's certificate qualifying her as a teacher "of the Second Grade." A teacher's report of the same year, shows her to have been the only teacher in District School No. 14 in New Lisbon, which had a total of fifty-seven students ranging in age from under 5 to 13.

"Mrs. Ambrose Chase, who lived about two miles from Morris on the Ketchum road, died very suddenly Monday morning, aged about sixty years.
