George P. Spratt was born on the family farm in Rutledge Township in northeast DeWitt County near Farmer City, IL. On October 30, 1880 he married Rebecca Ann Vance, the daughter of neighbors Solomon and Rachel Vance. George and Rebecca had five children: James Pearl, Clarence "Patsy", Talmadge Ross, Daisy F., and Charles Albert.

In 1901 George and his family moved to Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa.

George's death notice published May 3, 1943 in Des Moines Tribune (page 16 column 2), stated: "Spratt – Funeral services for George Spratt, age 80 years, father of J. P. Spratt, of 1800 6th Ave, will be held from Lilly’s Tuesday 1:30. Interment in Glendale Cemetery".
