HOWARD EDWARD CLINE

May 17, 1916-April 5, 2005

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Bethel Cemetery with Bro. Loren Dryer officiating. Burial is under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Fund.

Visitation is 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the funeral home.

Howard Edward Cline was born May 17, 1916, in Long Lane, the son of the late George Thomas and Inez Esther (Swift) Cline. He died April 5, 2005, at his home near Long Lane, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 19 days.

He was reared in the Charity community and received his early schooling there. He then graduated from high school in Buffalo. After his schooling he moved to California and then to Iowa before returning home. He was united in marriage with Lois Curtright on Oct. 27, 1940, in Buffalo, and to this union three sons were born.

They made their home in the Greentown area before moving to the Charity community. He answered the call of his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946. Upon returning home he moved his family to the family farm in the Long Lane area, where he resided at his passing. He remained at home after his wife's death in 2002 where he could enjoy his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and visiting with friends. He especially enjoyed his neighbors, the Taylors who were like family to him.

He worked as a bus driver as well as farming and cutting wood. Music and dancing with his wife were his favorite activities. He was not formally a member of a church, but kept his Lord and Savior close to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and four brothers: Hosea, Homer, Heber and Harley Cline.

Survivors include his three sons: Tom and wife, Betty Cline, Wayne Cline, and Dean and wife, Ona Cline, all of Long Lane; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other family and friends who will truly miss him.
