MAFRA FENDER METCALF

OLD FORT - Mafra Fender Metcalf, 83, passed away Monday, November 11, 2002, at a local health-care facility.

Mafra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her joy in life was sewing and quilting for her friends and family. She will be sadly missed. She formerly attended Old Fort First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Winsome Sunday school class.

A native of Madison County, Mafra was the daughter of the late Hobart and Vina Roberts Fender. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Claude Metcalf, and brothers, Logan and Fate Fender.

Surviving are her daughter, Gerald Sluder and her husband, Elbert, of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Marlene Ratcliff and her husband, Steve, John Sluder and his wife, Susan, and Mary Hudson and her husband, Danny; great-granddaughters, Kelda and Bridget Sluder; sister, Irene Peek of Marshall; and brothers, L. D. Fender, Stepp Fender, J. Will Fender, all of Marshall, and Jarvis Fender of Weaverville.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Rogers will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery in Old Fort.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall, 649-9163. At other times the family will be at 116 Fulton Drive, Hendersonville.
