Note: I am told that the last name is misspelled and should be Anderson. Another memorial, created 2 years later has the name spelled Anderson, memorial number 118108131.

I think this is an unusual situation where both memorials should remain. (noted on 9/25/16)
Graveside Service Saturday For Bothwell Soldier

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 11, for Corp. Jesse R. Anderson, at 2 p.m. in the Bothwell cemetery. He was killed in action Feb. 27, 1944 at Iwo Jima, while serving with the Marine corps.

He enlisted in Nov. 1942 and was wounded at Guam in July, 1941, but returned to active duty. The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously to his mother.

He was a graduate of Bear River high school and was employed by Union Pacific at Salt Lake City before entering the service.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Ethel A. Hoskins of Portage; his father H.C. Anderson, Wellington; two brothers and a sister, Warren Anderson, Ogden; Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Farren Christensen, Tremonton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian Anderson, Bear River City and Mrs. Nels Anderson, Salt Lake City.

Friends may call at the Shaw and Rogers funeral home Friday evening and Saturday until time for the services. Military honors will be conducted by the Borgstrom Post 4220, VF1V.

Box Elder Marine Killed in Pacific

Corp J.R.Anderson, 19, marine corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Anderson, of Portage, was killed in action Feb. 27, at Iwa Jima, according to word received from the war department by his parents.

He enlisted in November 1942 and left for overseas duty in January, 1943. He was wounded at Guam on July 27, 1944, but returned to active service. He was a graduated of the Bear River high school, Garland, and was employed as a call boy at Salt Lake City for the union Pacific railroad before entering service.

Corp. Anderson was born Sept. 10, 1925, at Salt Lake City. He was a member of the L.D.S. church.

Surviving are his mother of Portage, his father, employed at Hickman field, Hawaii; two brothers, Pc. Warren Anderson, Santa Ana, Calif., and Raymond Anderson, Portage; a sister, Mrs. Ferron Christensen, Tremonton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian Anderson, Bear River City, and Mrs. Nels Anderson, Salt Lake City.
