Mr. Atkinson was a former shop foreman for Evans Lumber Company, South Charleston, a member and deacon of Atkinson Memorial Church, Elkview, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam and a loving husband and father.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra; sons, Tommy Ray Atkinson and wife, Tracy, of Nitro, Christopher Lewis Atkinson at home; brothers, Jim Atkinson of Wooster, Ohio, Bucky Atkinson of Berryville, Alaska, Daniel Freeman of Orrville, Ohio, Tim Atkinson of Paducah, Ky., Billy Joe and Randy Atkinson, both of Frame; sisters, Janet Fields of Jacksonville, N.C., Iris Sanders of Waycross, Ga., Linda Jackson of Gentry, Alaska, Sandra Harless of Elkview, Debbie Atkinson of Frame.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at Atkinson Memorial Church, Elkview, with the Rev. Jim Proctor officiating. Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery, Elkview.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Elkview.
