The family moved to Webster county la., 1866 and after five years, Emma, at the age of 7 years came with her father, mother, two brothers and one sister and settled on a homestead four and one half miles northwest of Scandia, Kan.
On November 3, 1881 she was united in marriage to Herman Banks. To this union were born eight children: Clarence Banks, Mrs. Bertha Stromberg, Belleville, Kan., Howard Banks, Osage City, Kan., Mrs. Vera Konovalsky, Superior, Neb., Mrs. Nora Fahnestock, Kansas City, Mrs. Zora McClure, Big Delta, Alaska, and Mrs. Floy Jones, Miltonvale, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1916, Fay Marvin who died in infancy and Clarence Banks in 1941.
On August 31, 1922 she was united in marriage to Elwood West who passed away September 26, 1935. She held the love and devotion of her step-children to the very end.
Mrs. West was converted and united with the United Brethren church in 1886 but later joined the Wesleyan Methodist church where she continued to be a faithful member. She attended the services of the church as long as possible; even attending Camp Meeting at Miltonvale last August. Her steadfastness in the faith was remarkable. One of her greatest joys was entertaining the visiting evangelists in her home during a series of special meetings.
She is survived by her six children; a sister, Mrs. Zora Botts, of Altus, Okla.; one brother, Nathan Garber, Springfield, Neb., 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Wesleyan Methodist church by the Rev. Frank Gilger, assisted by the Rev. J. A. Standsbury of Miltonville. Interment was made in the Union Valley Cemetery.
