Robert H. Black, 81, of Buckhannon died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 12:15 a.m. in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born March 31, 1924, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the son of the late George Henry Black and Mattie Mae Peay Black. He was united in marriage on January 11, 1947 to Eleanor Frances Kling Black, who survives. Also surviving are two sons: Robert Francis and wife Carolyn Ruth Black of Woburn, Mass., and Frederick G. and wife Pamela Black of Waterville, Maine; daughter Suellen A. Lyons of Cape Cod, Mass.; four grandsons: Sean F. and wife Tammy A. Lyons of Buckhannon, Frederick Black Jr. of Portland, Maine, Thomas F. and wife Wendy Black of Woburn, Mass. and Robert F. Black Jr. of Woburn, Mass.; three granddaughters: Holly Black and Carla Regione both of Woburn, Mass., and Jennifer Black of San Francisco, Calif.; and two sisters: Correane Starnes and Carrie E. Luke both of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and also eight brothers: Jasper, John Newt, Porter, David, Claude, Arthur, Eugene and Laurence Black; and three sisters: Elizabeth Montgomery, Polly Orr and Louise Poteat. Mr. Black was a truck driver for Transcon. He was a member of the Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7 American Legion, Irish American in Malden, Mass., and the Holy Name Society. Mr. Black also attended the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Friends will be received today, April 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home. The mass of Christian burial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father James McCafferty officiating. The burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. A vigil for the deceased will be held 7 p.m. Friday, April 22. The Buckhannon VFW Post No. 3663 Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Source:
