Mansfield.--In Pasadena, Cal., Oct. 3, 1912, Eld. D. R. Mansfield, in his ninety-first year, fell asleep in Jesus after a brief illness on account of pneumonia.
Another (and one of our greatest and best Adventual fathers) has gone to his rest. His death will be mourned by thousands from Maine to California.
The deceased was born at Camden, Maine, in 1821, and was converted when fourteen years old. Soon after embracing the doctrine of the second advent in 1843 he became a preacher of the Word and for nearly seventy years he faithfully proclaimed the Savior's return. Through his ministry thousands heard the glorious truth and were led to the Savior.
In 1847 he was joined in marriage to the talented Mehetable S. Higgins, who like himself was a sweet singer and able minister of the Word.
In 1878 this devoted wife, stricken by death, fell at her post of duty. Three years later, Eld. Mansfield was married to Mrs. Elvira Jennings, also a gospel minister of many years' experience. With her he lived happily until her decease.
Besides doing much pioneer work as an evangelist, Eld. Mansfield held many important pastorates, notable of which were those with the churches at Union Mills, Indiana, for 8 years, at Buchanan, Mich., 14 years, and at Chicago, Ill., 7 years.
Through his wise and helpful management, several houses of worship were erected, and numerous important conventions were held.
He leaves a son and daughter to mourn his loss, and his memory will ever be cherished by thousand of Christians who knew him and who were cheered and helped by his ministry.
The funeral service of the deceased was held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6, in the Advent Christian Church at Pasadena, Cal., under the direction of Pastor Miles Grant Nelson, assisted by Elds. George French, Roger Sherman, O.M. Owen and W. R. Chandler.
Funeral discourse by the writer from Psalm 17:15. Our aged brother was buried Oct. 15 in the Evergreen Cemetery at Los Angeles, California. There by the side of Eld. Miles Grant, he peacefully rests the "little while." Soon he shall awaken and rise and be satisfied with beholding his Savior in whose likeness he shall appear.
