NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Mary Kathryn Greer, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011.

Ms. Greer had worked for Dr. Young in Leesburg; as an officer nurse and scrub nurse for Dr. Dekel Taylor in Jacksonville for many years; was an instructor of operating room nursing at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore; and upon returning to Jacksonville (FL)was a Red Cross disaster nurse, one of her more notable assignments being at a Vietnamese refugee camp.

She was very active in the Granville Beville Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Lake Panasoffkee, serving as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president, and also as regional vice president of the organization.

Survivors include her daughter, Liz Sumner, Virginia; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the chapel, with Pastor Wayne Hood presiding. Interment will
follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 237 E. Marks St., Orlando, FL 32803.
