William J. (Bill, Willie) Rastatter
William J. (Bill, Willie) Rastatter, age 94, died on Sunday February 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Home, East, following a long and healthy life. He was born in Erie October 29, 1916 son of the late Michael and Mary Kuklys Razanauskas.
He was a 1936 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School where he excelled in football. He was the football team's quarterback and fullback. Bill was team captain his senior year.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 where he was a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Frederick, Oklahoma Army Air Field where he was a Physical Training Instructor for pilots.
Bill returned and worked at the General Electric Company for 41 years.
In retirement, he enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his friends at St. Joseph Apartments. He also enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth (Betty Crotty), his brothers Stanley, John, Walter, Edward and Joseph Razanauskas and his sister Florence Boesch.
He is survived by his children Lucy Cappello (Joseph Cappello, Ed. D) of Barnegat, N.J.; Anne Sullivan Ph. D., RN of Jupiter, Fla.; Michael Rastatter, Ph. D., of Greenville, N.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Sarah Cappello DiSalvatore (Joseph); Daniel Cappello; David Rastatter (Heather); and Brian Rastatter. He is survived by his great-grandchildren Jacen, Jack and Charlie Rastatter along with many nieces and nephews. The family extends their appreciation to Bill's nephews Richard Barron, Chris and Edward Razanauskas and sister-in-law Louise Razanauskas for their assistance and support.
Friends May call at the Mark G. Razanauskas Funeral Home, Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at St. Mary's Home Chapel, Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
