MRS. VIOLA E. HOLDER
Viola Elveta Holder, eldest daughter of James and Linna Smith was born in Marion County, Iowa on June 17, 1867 and departed this life on August 21, 1942 at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 4 days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Borger, of Chariton, Iowa. She had been in failing health for several years.
Viola Elveta Smith was united in marriage to William Holder in 1884 in Marion County, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, six of whom are living, Geo. Holder, Mrs. Manuel Abrahamson, Mrs. S. W. Ashby and Mrs. Fred Borger, all of Chariton, James Holder of Pleasantville, Iowa and Lester Holder of Baxter, Iowa. Her husband and one daughter, Lucy Stephenson, preceded her in death several years ago.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her six children, 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Dave Smith of Russell, Mrs. Zella Duncan of Melcher, Mrs. Mae Goff of Lacona and Willis Smith of Dallas and other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed in our midst. She gave a cheerful testimony to her friends and relatives that she was ready to go be with her Savior. Through all her suffering she bore it with much patience.
We may not know why death should come,
And take our mother from our home.
But though our eyes with tears are dim,
The Lord knows best, we'll trust in him.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Azel Smith of Knoxville, assisted by Rev. H. A. Thon, were held Sunday afternoon at the Chariton Nazarene Church, and burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
