John Earl Brockert 1934 ~ 2009

John Earl Brockert of Salt Lake City, Utah, entered into eternal rest on April 27, 2009 at Trillium Hospital in Mesa, Arizona where he was recovering from a respiratory infection.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin to Claude Obert and Geneva Cora (Smith) Brockert on February 11, 1934, John grew up and attended public schools in Wisconsin. He moved with his family to Globe, Arizona in the early 1950's and was a graduate of Arizona State University.

Affectionately known as the family leprechaun, due to his red hair, he went on to become the Utah State Director of Vital Statistics until his retirement in 1996. John was 100% Irish in his heart if not in fact. He was one of the founding members of the Salt Lake Hibernian Society.

John met and married Mary Brigid O'Connor in Alaska on May 19, 1962 and for 43 years she was the true bit of Erin in his heart and his life.

John is survived by his daughter Mary Cora of Denver, Colorado; and his son Christopher Sean of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his brothers James of Globe; Richard of Virginia; Michael of Prescott; Daniel of Globe; and his sisters Mary Ellen (Idler) of Denver; and Martha Ann (Skamel) of Globe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Breda his love, and brothers David of Madison, Wisconsin and Patrick of Virginia.

John was prayerful and a devout Catholic. He loved life and lived it fully. Anyone who knew him was a recipient of his warmth, his kindness, his wisdom, and his joy. If he could have summed up his life he would have said "Woo Haa, What a ride!"
